Encore Path Presents at Early Stage East’s Life Sciences Venture Show: Stroke Rehab Device Company Selected for Competitive Presentation
Entrepreneur Kristen Appel, CEO of Encore Path, had already won several business plan and grant awards for her company before being selected to present at Bio-Life-Tech. Appel formed Encore Path in 2006 to improve the quality of life for stroke patients. Encore Path’s debut product, currently called BATRAC (Bilateral Arm Trainer with Rhythmic Auditory Cueing), is a unique treatment device that retrains the patient’s motor pathways through auditory cueing paired with arm movements on a double-tracked device. The BATRAC is designed for stroke patients who have lost upper extremity function due to strokes or other injuries. In clinical trials, patients have shown regained movement working with the device, sometimes many years after their stroke. In addition to the auditory cueing, BATRAC is unique in that it will be available for patients to use in their homes, and can be ordered without prescription, starting in 2009.
Early Stage East’s Bio-Life-Tech conferences brings together venture capitalists, investment bankers, private equity, corporate and institutional investors and angel investors to hear presentations from these selected entrepreneurs. Appel’s Encore Path was the only medical device company and the only company focused on stroke rehabilitation presenting at the conference. Appel was awarded with the People’s Choice trophy at the end of the conference for the best presentation.
